A three-run home run for Teoscar Hernandez and another solid night at the plate for Christian Lopes helped the Buffalo Bisons to an 8-3 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I. Thursday night.
The Bisons took three out of the four games of the series.
Manufacturing the first run: The Bisons took a 1-0 lead in the second thanks to some good base running. Gregorio Petit singled then took second on a wild pitch by Pawtucket starter Jalen Beeks. That put him in position to score a two-out single by Jason Leblebijian.
Cranking: Teoscar Hernandez belted his third home run in three games. His three-run shot in the third gave the Bisons a 4-0 lead.
Having quite the series: Lopes has been on fire in the four games in Pawtucket. Thursday he had a two-run double in the sixth, then added a solo home run in the seventh. Lopes hit 5 for 17 against the PawSox, driving in seven runs and ringing up four extra-base hits. Lopes then scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning.
On the board: The PawSox got a run in the seventh when Brian Bogasevic hit his 11th home run of the year. Former Bison Matt Dominguez had a two-run double in the eighth to cut the Bisons’ lead to 7-3.
Getting the win: Brett Anderson picked up his first win with the Herd throwing 5 ∏ scoreless innings. Anderson gave up one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Roster moves: The Toronto Blue Jays recalled right-handed pitcher Tom Koehler and optioned starter Chris Rowley to Buffalo.
Up next: The Bisons continue their road trip with three games against the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field. Luis Santos is scheduled to start Friday (7:05 p.m., 1520 AM), Brett Oberholtzer on Saturday (6:05 p.m.), and Joe Biagini on Sunday (1:35 p.m.). The Herd then returns to Coca-Cola Field for their final homestand of the season. They will host Pawtucket for four games, Monday through Thursday, with all games a 7:05 scheduled first pitch.
Celebrating 30 years: The Bisons announced more promotions for Thursday’s celebration of the 30th season of the downtown ballpark. The Bisons 30th Season Celebration Game will include an autograph session with Jeff Manto from 7-8 p.m., four free tickets to Opening Day 2018 to anyone that gets a foul ball, a special guest appearance by The Earl of Bud, 30 “lucky seat” giveaways, a $100 Tops gift card for every Bisons home run, and a chance to win $1,000 if a home run is hit on the 30th pitch of the game. In addition, every 30th beer sold by Conehead will be free while fans will get 30 percent off all Bisons 30th season apparel and merchandise. There will special Big Board tributes from former Bisons now in the Major Leagues and of course Celery’s last WCC Race.
