28-time criminal sent to prison for Lockport auto theft

A man who pleaded guilty to stealing a vehicle in the City of Lockport, the 28th criminal conviction of his career, was sentenced Wednesday to 3 1/2 to seven years in state prison.

Calvin L. Williams, 50, of no permanent address, was given the maximum sentence available by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III for third-degree grand larceny.

In November, Murphy gave Williams a chance in a court-supervised drug treatment program after he pleaded guilty to stealing a woman's Chrysler PT Cruiser on Dec. 16, 2015, and abandoning it in Buffalo.

But Williams, a longtime drug user, was ousted from the treatment program for violating its rules, Assistant District Attorney Joel M. Grundy said.
