Victim fights off two robbers; gun fired during struggle

Buffalo police arrested a 26-year-old man after a gun was fired during a robbery Tuesday night on Northland Avenue near Humboldt Parkway, according to a police report.

The victim told police he struggled with two robbers, one of whom had a gun. One shot was fired during the struggle, and no one was apparently hit, according to the report.

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Northland between Humboldt and Lark Street, on the east side of the Kensington Expressway.

Matthew Chambets, 26, of Glenwood Avenue, was charged with two counts of third-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun. The robbers took cash, keys and an iPhone, according to the report.

The second assailant was not found.
