Fire swept through one home on Broadway and then damaged nearby a house, displacing 14 people Monday night.
The fire started on a mattress in a first-floor bedroom at 1981 Broadway shortly after 8 p.m., according to the Buffalo Fire Department Alarm Office.
Damage to the house where the fire started was estimated at $15,000. Another house at 1979 Broadway sustained about $8,000 in damage, the Alarm Office said.
Four adults and eight children were displaced from the home where the fire began, while two people who lived at the second house were being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
