A 25-year-old Brownell Street man is accused of attacking and robbing a 78-year-old man on the steps of a former Buffalo school on Broadway Friday evening, Buffalo Police reported.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. when James Foots approached the victim and sat down next to him on the steps of former Public School 44 at 1369 Broadway, police said.

Foots then allegedly punched the man and stole his wallet and cellphone.

A witness chased Foots down on Peck Street until Ferry-Fillmore District police arrived and apprehended him.

The victim's phone and credit card were recovered in a nearby yard and later returned to him.

Police did not report any injuries sustained by the victim in the robbery.
