Fitness in the Parks among health, fitness, family events Aug. 19 to 26

Outdoor fitness events at Canalside will spill into Labor Day weekend but Independent Health Fitness in the Parks classes in favorite outdoor spots across the region will take place in the coming days. They are among family, fitness, health and wellness, and nutrition events in the next week in Western New York.

FAMILY


Family Fun Day. Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, next Saturday, Artpark, Lewiston.

Family Fun on Saturday Afternoon. Noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, last day next Saturday, Middle Block, Old Falls Street, Niagara Falls. Arts and crafts, interactive children’s performers, “Exercise Like the Animals” fitness sessions and block party from noon to 2 p.m. Free.

Outdoor library. Including storytelling and craft program, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Canalside. Free.

Buffalo City Swim Racers Pirate Fundrais-aaarr. Board the Harbor Queen, docked at the Central Wharf at Canalside, by 7 p.m. Tuesday for a two-hour fundraiser for the nonprofit swim racers youth program. Wear your favorite pirate attire. Boat ride, entertainment, drinks and hors d’oeuvres are part of the fun. $50. Buy tickets here.

Storytime. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Canalside. For families and young children up to age 8. Free.

Lackawanna Community Fun Days. Kicks off from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with a resource and wellness fair in the Lackawanna Public Library, 560 Ridge Road. Health screenings, information and a car seat safety check from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hosted by Every Person Influences Children (EPIC) and Catholic Health. Any damaged, expired and recalled car seats will be replaced. A pop-up park is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday at the library; the free event will feature bounce houses, pony rides, games, food trucks and music.
