Buffalo man convicted of sex assault on 3-year-old

A jury took less than an hour on Friday to deliberate and convict a 36-year-old Buffalo man of predatory sexual assault against a child.

Erik Meir was found guilty of orally sodomizing a three-year-old boy in January 2016. A State Supreme Court trial lasted a week. Sentencing by Justice Russell P. Buscaglia is scheduled for Oct. 11, and Meir will face a prison term of 25 years to life.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn credited Buffalo Police Det. Joseph Ahmed for relentless investigation.

“Detective Ahmed could have given up on this case," Flynn said in a prepared statement. “He did not have much to work with at first, with such a young victim. But Detective Ahmed never gave up. He researched the defendant’s past contacts with law enforcement, developed additional witnesses to corroborate the child, and eventually obtained a confession from the defendant.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Ryan D. Haggerty and Anthony M. Rossi.
