Apparent hazmat situation causes traffic to back up on Thruway

Traffic on the Thruway eastbound Thursday was reported backed up about 5 miles between Lancaster and Alden, as a result of an apparent hazardous materials situation.

A witness at the scene reported that a tandem tractor-trailer was pulled over to the side of the road near North Millgrove Road, just outside of Akron.

Limited details were available.

State Police, along with crews from Clarence Fire District No. 1 and a hazmat truck, were reported to be on the scene.
