Aug. 17 – Erie County Chapter of SCOPE monthly meeting at Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca starting at 7 p.m.

Aug. 17 – Lake Erie Chapter - Fly Fishers International will be having their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the American Legion Post #735 on Legion Drive in West Seneca. Meeting will start promptly at 6 p.m. followed by a presentation about early stream steelhead fishing given by Nick Pionessa, a renowned local guide and commercial fly tyer. Public is welcome. Aug. 18 – Reelin’ for a Cure ladies trout and salmon tournament out of Wilson and Olcott 6 a.m. to noon. Call Stephanie Pierleoni  at 481-6388. It’s a great opportunity to help a most worthy cause. This year’s tournament will benefit the Breast Cancer Network of WNY.

Aug. 18 - September 4 – Fall Lake Ontario Counties Trout and Salmon Derby. $25,000 Grand Prize for the largest salmon. Over $66,000 in cash prizes. Visit for details.

Aug. 19-27 – Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey Derby in Erie, Niagara and Orleans counties. Kids are free, age 15 and under. Six species categories. Find out more information at

Aug. 19-20 – Fall Great Outdoor Days at Cabela’s, 2003 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Everything hunting and fall outdoor activities. Capt. Joe Fonzi and TV Host Gerry Rightmyer will be on hand giving seminars. Aug. 20 -- Boston Valley Conservation Society; 9624 Zimmerman Road, , Boston, will host a 10-week Phall Trap League starting Aug. 20. Sign-up times are Sundays 9 am-12 noon and Thursdays 6-8 p.m.. Individuals, teams and practice shooters are all welcome.

Aug. 27 – Free admission to the NYS Fair, Syracuse if you show your hunting and fishing license (this day only). I Love NY Bass Tournament on Onondaga Lake 7-11 a.m. with weigh in at the Fair. Family fishing day for kids at the Fair pond 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
