Mike Harrington's Power Take: How does Buffalo not have a sports museum?

Boston fans can go to the New England Sports Museum inside the halls of TD Garden, home of the Celtics and Bruins. The facility is celebrating its 40th year and has an annual budget of $1.4 million.

In Pittsburgh, you can relive the glory of Roberto Clemente, the Steel Curtain, Mario Lemieux or high school football at the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

The Green Bay Packers have a 15,000 square foot shrine to their franchise inside Lambeau Field.  There are more examples too, both for professional and college teams.

How do we not have something like this in Buffalo at Canalside?

I'm all for a children's museum. Sounds like a great tourist attraction. But what about a place to celebrate the Bills, Sabres, Braves, Bisons, colleges, high schools? How about the Stallions, Norsemen or, Breskis?

John Boutet of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame has become the area's foremost sports archivist. You can see his work at Coca-Cola Field. He has a monstrous personal collection and donations would fly in too. It's sad what we we didn't preserve from the Aud.

We need a benefactor. Memo to Terry and Kim Pegula: Put this one on your list.
