Rath wants 'dangerous' New Road redone in East Amherst

Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath III said he has heard enough concern from constituents about the "dangerous" condition of New Road in East Amherst and he wants the county to reconstruct the road.

New Road is a two-lane road that doesn’t have shoulders or sidewalks between Smith and North French roads.

The Amherst Republican on Aug. 4 wrote to William Geary, Erie County's commissioner of public works, that New Road has the same condition score as Maple Road on the county's scale, and questioned why the county was reconstructing Maple but not New. He asked for an update.

Natale Builders is planning to construct 80 homes on 57 acres of New near Millersport Highway, a $35 million project opposed by many neighbors. The Town Board has not acted on the required rezoning.
