Man pleads not guilty in collision that killed his mother

A Cattaraugus County man pleaded not guilty to second-degree manslaughter in connection with his actions in a Jan. 26 motor vehicle accident that killed his mother, officials said.

Andrew J. Armbruster, 30, of East Otto, also pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign, according to Cattaraugus County District Attorney Lori Pettit Rieman.

Armbruster is accused of being allegedly under the influence of a narcotic, driving at a high rate of speed in slippery conditions, and distracted by his cellphone when his car failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a tractor-trailer at Bowen and East Otto-Springville roads, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office.

Grace E. Armbruster, 52, of East Otto, who was a passenger in her son's car, died in the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office.
