Mike Harrington's Power Take: Injuries derail Subway Series luster

Just imagine you bought Subway Series tickets way back in March. Two games in Yankee Stadium on Monday and Tuesday. Games in Citi Field on Wednesday and Thursday. Mid-August. Middle of the pennant race. Think of the drama you figured to see.

Now think of the reality. The Yankees, while still leading the AL wild-card race, are coming off two horrific losses to the Red Sox and Aaron Judge has lost his way and struck out in 30 straight games. He looks like a guy who should be in Scranton.  The Mets, meanwhile, are playing out the string under Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer Terry Collins, who looks like a complete lame duck

Who won't be there? Talk about decimated pitching. No Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia or Masahiro Tanaka for the Yankees. No Matt Harvery, Noah Syndergaard or Zack Wheeler for the Mets. Poor Mets. David Wright and Jeurys Familia are on the DL. Jay Bruce and Neil Walker have been traded.

Tuesday's pitching matchup of Jacob DeGrom and Sonny Gray is a doozy. Not so for Rafael Montero vs. Luis Cessa and  Jaime Garcia vs. Seth Lugo. Sure not what you figured in the spring.
