Home games against Rider and Iona on the final weekend of 2017 will kickoff the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule for Canisius and Niagara in men’s basketball. The Golden Griffins will face Rider on Friday, Dec. 29 and Iona on New Year’s Eve. Niagara will face Iona on Dec. 29 and Rider on Dec. 31. MAAC teams will play 18 conference games this season, meaning Canisius will face Manhattan and Fairfield only once each. The Griffs will face the Jaspers on the road Jan. 19 and Fairfield at home Feb. 12. Niagara will face Siena and Rider once each under the new conference scheduling format.
Canisius announced that it will open its schedule at the University at Buffalo on Nov. 11. The home opener will be Nov. 18 against Youngstown State. Niagara will be met on Jan. 27 at the Koessler Center and Feb. 21 at the Gallagher Center. The Griffs’ schedule includes a Nov. 15 game at Air Force as part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase. Canisius will then play more games in that event in Stockton, Calif. against Pacific, Texas State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff Nov. 24-26.
Niagara’s schedule is featured by a game at Minnesota Nov. 15, at Brigham Young Nov. 21 and participation in the Barclays Center Classic. The Purple Eagles will open the season at St. Bonaventure on Nov. 11.
