WKBW-TV (Channel 7) viewers will be seeing more of anchor Lia Lando, who has been temporarily anchoring the Sunday newscasts as a vacation fill-in.
Channel 7 General Manager Michael Nurse confirmed that Lando will be the permanent Sunday anchor starting in September.
That's when Hannah Buehler, the former Sunday anchor, will be moving to anchor the new 7 p.m. weekday softer news program, "The Now."
Lando is a former Rochester anchor who still lives there. She briefly anchored at WIVB-TV seven years ago. Nurse said Lando will start as a part-time hire.
"Lia is balancing family and is just looking for limited part time to start," said Nurse. "We are happy to take whatever she can give us at this time. She is a rock-solid professional and we are thrilled she will anchor on Sundays and partner with (meteorologist) Don Paul as this is a critical night in the fall with high HUTs (homes using television) and competing football disruptions. Excellent opportunity for sampling."
