Lockport man charged with punching man with Down syndrome

A City of Lockport man was charged early Sunday with a felony count of endangering the welfare of an incompetent person for allegedly punching a man with Down syndrome in the mouth.

Donathan L. Alston, 45, of East Avenue was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday on Locust Street. Lockport police said that at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Alston visited a South Street apartment where the victim lives with his sister, and asked about getting some money from the woman's boyfriend.

Police said Alston became angry when the request was rejected, and the victim told him to leave. Alston allegedly punched him and then struck the woman with a phone and shoved her against some shelves before leaving. An ambulance crew treated the man for bleeding in his mouth.
