Seven area organizations received a total of $75,000 from the General Motors Foundation as part of a conference held at GM's Tonawanda engine plant on Tuesday.
The recipients were: Buffalo Urban League, Northtown Boys and Girls Club, Willie "Hutch" Jones Educational and Sports Program, United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, American Cancer Society, Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo/Success Looks Like Me, and the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School.
The donations were in conjunction with the 2017 STEAM Conference, presented by the Education Collaborative of WNY and WNY STEM, and sponsored by the GM Tonawanda engine plant and SUNY Buffalo State.
A total of 75 area high school students attended the event at the engine plant. The program included presentations by two GMC vehicle designers from the automaker's design headquarters in Warren, Mich.
