Royal loses twice in AAABA tournament

With one game remaining to be played in pool play, Royal Printing of Buffalo was virtually eliminated from championship consideration with two losses Wednesday at the AAABA  national tournament in Johnstown, Pa.

Manager Bob Carnevale's team was shut out on a three-hitter by left-hander Harry Rutkowski in a 6-0 loss to New Brunswick (N.J.) Matrix in their tournament opener Tuesday morning. The Royals were outslugged, 9-6, by the Philadelphia Bandits in the afternoon to fall to 0-2.

Mike Gabriele (Niagara University) drove four runs with a homer and a double for Royal in the loss while Vince Charenza (Niagara County CC) contributed a two-run homer.
Royal, the Buffalo representative in the 16 team tournament, will face the Columbus Jets of Ohio (1-1) in pool play today, but appear to have no chance of advancing to elimination play, having give up 15 runs in two games.
