The huge former Public Safety Building in Niagara Falls could become living space for scores of senior citizens.
The city's Community Development Department has requested proposals from developers by Sept. 1 for reuse of the vacant 78,000-square-foot building at 520 Hyde Park Blvd., located on a 3-acre site with large parking lots.
But proposals that call for senior apartments and include a project labor agreement with local unions will receive top priority, Community Development Director Seth Piccirillo said.
“The neighborhood surrounding 520 Hyde Park Blvd. deserves a renovation plan that brings new life to this vacant structure, preventing a costly demolition and putting the building back on the tax rolls,” Piccirillo said.
The Police Department and City Court moved in 2008 to 1925 Main St.
