THE COLOR PURPLE – It’s National Purple Heart Day. In honor of our servicemen and women who were wounded or gave their lives in the line of duty, the Peace Bridge, the Electric Tower in downtown Buffalo and the dome on Buffalo City Hall all will shine with purple light from dusk until 11 p.m. this evening.

BEACH PARTY – Ten Lives Club, the cat rescue and adoption service in Blasdell, will host a fundraising party from 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday in Cabana Sam’s Sunset Bay Grill, 1028 South Shore Drive, Irving.

CHEWING IT OVER – “Tummy and Teeth” will be the theme of this week’s EPIC (Every Person Influences Children) Storytime on the Great Lawn at Canalside in downtown Buffalo.
Special guest for the session from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday will be local teacher and author Lisa Abbott, who will read from her book, “I Dig Figs.”
Also on hand will be staff from UBMD Pediatric Dentistry and Cavity Free Kids, who will show youngsters how to brush and care for their teeth. Children up to age 8 and their families are welcome. Admission is free.

CHURCH NOTE – The celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation continues at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with a screening of “Luther,” the 2003 film starring Joseph Fiennes, in Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served. Free-will offerings will be accepted.
