Borowicz, 21 other WNY golfers in State Amateur

Newly-crowned Buffalo District champion Kevin Borowicz of River Oaks and 21 other Western New York golfers will join the field of 144 for Tuesday's first round of the 95th New York State Amateur Championship on the famed Black Course at the Bethpage State Park on Long Island.

Another  local entry is Jeff Wolniewicz of Cragburn won the tournament in 2008.  He is one of four past State Amateur champions entered. The last winner from Western New York was Matt Stasiak of Clarence, who took the title in 2013. Last year's winner Tyler McArdell of Baldwinsville has turned pro has as the 2015 winner Trevor Sluman of Rochester.

Another local entry is Sean Lindstrom of Wanakah who won the Buffalo qualifier  with a 2-under-par 69 at the Springville Country Club last month.

After the second 18-h0le round on Wednesday, the field will be cut to the low 40 plus ties for two more 18-hole rounds of medal play Thursday and Friday.
