Domestic violence safe room named for Lockport murder victim

The YWCA of the Niagara Frontier has named a safe room for domestic violence victims in its Lockport facility after Tina Marie Boyer. The Lockport woman was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in her Washburn Street apartment in 2004.

Friday's dedication at 32 Cottage St. marked the 13th anniversary of the 30-year-old's death.

Her mother, Debbie Boyer, has been active in raising funds and awareness for domestic violence programs, including an annual cellphone drive and a "Pennies From Heaven" fundraiser at the Lockport Walmart.

Rodney T. Davis, 52, who had broken up with Tina Boyer a few days before the killing, is serving a sentence of 25 years to life for second-degree murder.
