Bulletin Board (August 4): Notes and events

The NY Diamond Girls of Buffalo were undefeated in 10 games and outscored their opposition, 77-11, in topping a field of 78 teams to win the USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) Fast-Pitch Softball 16U World Series in Ocean City, Md., last weekend. Mia Ciccarella (Amherst) of the Diamond Girls was named tournament MVP while teammates Jenna Rhue (Lew-Port) and Ally Haskell (Franklinville) were selected as MVP Offense and MVP Pitcher respectively.

Other members of the team are: Erin Colucci, Hannah Catallo-Stooks, Alyssa Coons, Emilee Hanlon, Lily Wozniak, Anilese Kelly, Kayla Brown and Shelby Simmeth. Brian Coons is the head coach assisted by Bob Kelly, Larry Colucci and Mark Blersch.


BASEBALL: Niagara Jr. Thunderwolves 10U will hold competitive tryouts for 2018 season. Tryouts start at 6 p.m. with registration at 5:30 p.m. Tryouts will be at Veterans Memorial Park, 7000 Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls. Questions contact Coach Oliveri (716) 940-6609 or ... The 2018 14U Orchard Park Lightning will be holding tryouts on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. Tryouts will take place at the Green Lake/Yates Park baseball field in Orchard Park. BASKETBALL: The 15th annual Wilson Harbor Hoops 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at Clark’s Park in Wilson on Saturday, Aug. 12 beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament is open to players of all ages and all participants will receive a dri-fit t-shirt with this year’s Harbor Hoops logo. LACROSSE: The Buffalo Lacrosse Academy has registration open for its boys grades 1-8 Fall Ball Academy at the Nichols School. The sessions will run on Sundays, Sept. 10, 17, 24, Oct. 8, 15 and 22. SOFTBALL: Amherst Lightning Travel Softball will be holding open tryouts at Northtown Center in Amherst, beginning at 5:30 p.m. each night: Monday. (Rain dates Aug. 10 and 11 from 6-8:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m.-noon). All age groups to attend all dates.
