Mike Wagner had a great day, leading Battistoni Diesel to a two-game sweep during the opening of the NABF Regional Tournament on Thursday in Frederick, Md.
Wagner tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener with 10 strikeouts as Diesel defeated the Frederick Flying Dogs, 5-0. Wagner and Jimmy Spano each had two hits and scored twice in the win, while teammate Jacob Victor also had two hits.
In the second game, Wagner earned the win in relief as Diesel picked up a 1-0 win in 10 innings over the Black Barons (Md.). Wagner led off the top of the 10th with a double and scored the winning run on Chris Kwitzer's third hit of the game.
Diesel closes out pool play Friday against the West Virginia Pirates. The championship round begins Saturday. The tournament concludes Sunday.
