One night after ending an epic 13-game losing streak to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Buffalo Bisons made it two in a row over the RailRiders, earning the right to return home for a brief series on a minor roll.
The Herd defeated the hosts, 4-2, Thursday night at PNC Park in Moosic, Pa.
The Bisons scored single runs in the third and fourth innings after both teams scored twice in their respective half of the first. Buffalo handed Scranton starter Caleb Smith his first loss in nine decisions.
El’ More: Jake Elmore drove in two runs for the Bisons, including the go-ahead run in the third via sacrifice fly that plated Christian Lopes. During Buffalo’s two-run first inning, Elmore’s single to center scored Jon Berti.
Elmore is on a bit a hot streak as he has recorded at least one hit in each of his last five games, going 8 for 20 over that stretch to raise his average from .211 to .223.
Berti sizzles: Berti has now hit safely in 14 of his last 17 games after Thursday’s 3-for-5 showing. His fourth-inning single drove in Mike Ohlman with the Herd’s fourth run.
Rehabbing Yankee: Aaron Hicks went 1 for 3 in his second straight rehab game for the RailRiders. Hicks was hitting .290 with 10 home runs in 60 games with the Yankees when he suffered an oblique injury.
Roster move: Right-handed pitcher Leonel Campos was activated after being optioned by Toronto. To make room, righty Andrew Case was transferred to Double-A New Hampshire.
Next: The Bisons return home to open a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. In addition to it being the usual fridaynightbash!, it will also be Daemen College Night at Coca-Cola Field. Lucas Harrell (0-1, 2.05 ERA) gets the start for the Herd. The series continues Saturday and Sunday with Saturday being Seinfeld Night with John O’Hurley making an appearance.
