The Buffalo Bills started training camp and they aren’t the only ones who have to adjust to a new head coach.
Just in time for the end of summer and the start of tailgate season comes the “Mighty McDermott,” named for the Buffalo Bills new head coach, Sean McDermott.
“It took some time to come up with the name," said owner Gaeton Camillo. "We had the ‘McDermo-tator’ and then the ‘Mega McDermott,' but we went with the 'Mighty McDermott' because the Bills gave him all the power and the keys to the franchise.”
Camillo says the ingredients are similar to the Big Rex, but with some tweaks.
“We backed off on the spice because he's more laid back. And it's about 10 inches long instead of 12 inches because he's a shorter guy,” he said.
Ingredients are a roasted garlic spice blend, imported Parmesan cheese, shaved Pecorino Romano cheese, fresh spinach, bell peppers and onions.
“It’s actually one of our best sausages,” Camillo said. (Cost is $3.99 per pound.) If you can’t make it to the market, Charlie’s Boat Yard (1111 Fuhrmann Blvd., Buffalo) has it on the menu, and is the only local restaurant to serve it.
“To add a little humor we were going to make a spinach and artichoke Rex sausage and call it 'the big choke' after last year,” Camillo laughed.
Camillo’s Sloan Super Market is at 494 Reiman St. Open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sundays.
