Mulberry Italian restaurant opening Snyder location

Mulberry Italian Ristorante is opening its long-rumored Northtowns location in Snyder, replacing Squire on Main.

The restaurant will offer the meatballs and most of the pasta dishes that have made the Lackawanna original a red-sauce mecca while adding a few features, said owner Joe Jerge.

The space at 4548 Main St. will include a mozzarella bar, Jerge said, serving diners housemade cheeses including mozzarella only minutes old, presented with seasonal accompaniments. Diners will also be able to watch some of the restaurant's pastamakers at work. "You'll order your macaroni, and someone's right there making it for you," said Jerge.

Mulberry opened in 2005. It became a regional attraction after television food personality Guy Fieri visited in 2010. In 2015, Jerge opened The Mess Hall in downtown Lackawanna, serving Mulberry hits amid a more eclectic menu.

Mulberry on Main will also offer pizza, Jerge said. "It's Mulberry, but a little bit more unique."

He hopes to open the restaurant by early September.
