Amherst borrowing up to $255,000 for hidden lake park project

Amherst will borrow up to $255,000 to pay for improvements to Dann Lake Park in the town's northeast corner.

The project is meant to make it easier for people to fish, canoe or kayak on the 22-acre, man-made lake largely hidden from view. A developer in 2003 donated the land for the undeveloped park off Dann Road, between Smith and Transit roads.

The improvements will include a boardwalk and stone dust trails, a 14-space parking area, and a canoe and kayak launch and a fishing platform on the edge of the lake.

The town Planning Board last month approved the project's site plan application. The town will put the project out to bid once it receives wetland permits from the state and federal governments.

In Amherst, an almost-secret lake awaits visitors
