Read around the village encourages Hamburg students to dive into books

Union Pleasant Elementary School in Hamburg has come up with a different way to encourage reading over the summer.

Principal Jacqueline Peffer and Assistant Principal Nicole Lauer are "reading around the village" with their students.

The next round will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gunther's Hill in Woodview Park. Students bring a book, and something to sit on, and the reading begins. Then they catch up with their friends at the playground.

Another round of reading will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Trolley Station roundabout, near Nick Charlap's ice cream stand.
