Reclaim Niagara, a citizen group in Niagara Falls that says state government has too much control over the city's economy, will begin airing a 30-second television commercial Tuesday urging viewers to become politically active and sign an online petition.
One of the group's leaders, attorney Jason J. Cafarella, said the spot will air during local breaks on the major cable news channels and other networks such as ESPN and Lifetime.
Cafarella said the group screened the commercial for prominent Falls residents who contributed about $5,000 to pay for a month of airings.
The commercial highlights dilapidated areas of the Falls and asserts the state keeps the city from benefiting from its waterfront, hydropower, downtown development and most of the Seneca Niagara casino funds.
"The state and its authorities have pilfered these resources and take the benefits generated from them,” Cafarella said.
