Orville's defeated Battistoni Diesel, 8-5, Sunday at Northtown Center to earn the right to represent the Buffalo Region in the NABF Major Division World Series in Battle Creek, Mich., starting Aug. 10. Former Hilbert College Garrett Paul right-hander pitched the complete game for Orville's. Neal DeMartin had two hits for Diesel in the loss.
Coach Glen Toughey's team continued its mastery of Diesel. Orville's swept two games from Diesel in the New Era Muny AAA regular season, although finishing in third place (17-9) a game behind Battistoni (18-8) in the standings.
Diesel advanced to the championship game with a 4-3 victory earlier on Sunday over JAMCO at ECC North as pitcher Zach Jordon went seven innings and allowed four hits. Mike Wagner had three hits and Jimmy Spano two for Diesel.
Orville's triumphed over Team Deb in its semifinal win on Sunday at Johnnie Wiley.
The season and hopes to make it to the Battle Creek did not end Sunday for JAMCO and Battistoni Diesel.
JAMCO will play in the Connecticut Regional which will open with pool play on Thursday in West Haven. Battistoni Diesel will compete on the Maryland Regional where pool play also will begin on Thursday
