WASHINGTON -- "Kids Korner," the child care program for patients at the Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center, would be made a permanent fixture at the hospital under legislation passed Friday by the House of Representatives.
Rep. Brian Higgins, a Buffalo Democrat, announced that the House had approved the Veteran's Access to Child Care Act, which makes permanent a program that started as a pilot program at the Buffalo VA in 2011 and that has since spread to VA facilities nationwide.
“Access to childcare should never be a barrier to healthcare for our veterans,” said Higgins, a co-sponsor of the legislation. “For Western New York, this bill ends the yearly struggle to ensure childcare services remain at the Buffalo VA.”
The legislation still has to pass in the Senate.
