WNY Volunteer Firemen's Convention kicks off in Wheatfield

The grounds of Wheatfield Town Hall are serving as the headquarters for the 118th annual Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention, which opened Thursday and continues through Sunday.

Frontier and St. Johnsburg fire companies are hosting the event in a tent city being set up on the town campus, 2800 Church Road. Beer tents with live music are open to the general public Friday and Saturday nights. Convention meetings are being held in the St. Johnsburg hall, 7165 Ward Road.

Although the Friday schedule includes the Firefighter Olympics and a beer pong tournament, Saturday is the main day of activities. Its agenda includes junior firefighter training, a memorial service, the Firefighter of the Year awards and a firemen's parade on Ward Road, starting at 7 p.m.

A full schedule is available on the association website, wnyvfa.org.
