Nora K. Barnes, 108, former Western Savings Bank cashier

June 11, 1909 – July 17, 2017

Nora K. Barnes, a longtime employee of the former Western Savings Bank, died July 17 in St. Ann’s Community, Rochester, where she had been a resident for several years. She was 108.

Born in Trout Creek, Ont., near North Bay, the former Nora Kelly was the daughter of Irish immigrants and came to Buffalo with her family when she was 3. She attended Buffalo schools.

Mrs. Barnes was a cashier at Western Savings Bank in its main office in downtown Buffalo from 1930 until she retired in 1974.

She enjoyed bowling, knitting and cooking. A longtime resident of Williamsville, she moved to Rochester about a dozen years ago to be near her daughter.

Survivors include her daughter, Maryann K. Lagergren; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1130 Webster Road, Webster.
