HADSELL - Philip R. Age 78, of Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, NY. He was born on June 1, 1939 in East Cleveland, OH, the son of Philip and Inez Hadsell. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (nee Supparits); a daughter, Krista (David) Hannafey; and a son, Phil (Dana) Hadsell. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from The Ohio State University, he began his career as an oceanographer at the National Oceanographic Data Center in Washington, DC, where he worked for over 35 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE, where he found a new calling as a barista at a local coffee shop. There he enjoyed beach life and the friendships of his co-workers and customers. Another move brought him to Tonawanda, NY, his wife's home town, where he embraced the Western New York culture of chicken wings, Bills and Sabres games, and Golden Warrior reunions. He was devoted to his family and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. In his early years he was an avid enthusiast of local sports car events in the Washington Metro area, participating in auto crossing, road rallies and racing his Austin Healy sprite on local tracks. He played team softball, ran a marathon, coached gymnastics and baseball teams, brewed beer, loved the game of golf and was working on his pilot's license when he became ill. He was a member of the Renaissance Club of North Tonawanda. He fought a courageous battle with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, doing everything he could to prolong his life, always pleasant and considerate. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family at Elmlawn Cemetery on Saturday, July 29, 2017, officiated by Pastor Karl W. Haeussler of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. A celebration of Phil's life will follow at 1:00 PM at the Elks Lodge, 55 Main Street, Tonawanda, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227, or Wings Flight of Hope, 3964 California Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127.
