Joel Spring of Ransomville had a banner day on gar pike in the Oak Orchard River out of his kayak last week, using rope flies to capture the toothy critters. Had to be a hoot! Here's a good example of the rope fly that Ransomville's Joel Spring was using on the gar pike he was catching in the Oak. He actually caught (and released) 15 on this particular day.

Vincent Etopio, 11, of Youngstown with his first ever walleye. It was caught Sunday in the lower Niagara at the Stella drift on a worm harness that he designed. He was extra excited because he reeled it in on his vintage Penn No.9 level wind reel. It measured 25" and weighed in at 6.31 pounds, making him the leader in the youth division, walleye category, of the NYS Summer Classic fishing tournament.

Sawyer Dolce of Orchard Park was fishing with Capt. Chris Cinelli of Grand Island when he caught a bass on a crayfish. When he reeled it into the boat, Cinelli noticed the green tag right off. Yes, it was another one of the bass released in the Canadian Tire Bass Classic, this one caught in the upper river around Strawberry Island, No. 83. This is the third tagged fish caught on Cinelli's boat. The other two came from the lower river below Niagara Falls.
