A Buffalo man convicted of possessing an illegal handgun and cocaine was sentenced Tuesday to 5 1/2 years in prison.
Michael Billups, 38, pleaded guilty in June to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. When Erie County Sheriff’s narcotics officers executed a search warrant at Billups' home on Jan. 13 at 2 a.m., they found four ounces of cocaine hidden in a fake book and a loaded .38 caliber revolver under a couch cushion.
Along with the prison term, Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk ordered Billups to have five years post-release supervision. Assistant District Attorney Justin T. Wallens prosecuted the case.
