Many world-renown comedians will be in Western New York during the last week of July, but there are three area shows featuring local comedians that also would be worth your time.
Edge Comedy Night has been local institution of laughs for years, but the July 26 show at Helium Comedy Club marks a turning point. Edge personalities James Kurdziel and Josh Potter have been featured on these shows, but Potter has been hired to tour nationally so this marks his last local show for a while. This month they are joined by Greg Bauch, former producer for WGR 550 AM. General admission tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $5. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com
Throughout July, a number of local comedians have hilariously insulted each other onstage while competing in the first-ever “Roast Battle Buffalo” tournament. Now the finals are set for July 29 with Rick Matthews and Liam Patrick facing off against each other to earn a prize of $500. Celebrity judges will decide the competition, and several other local comics will also roast each other on “undercard bouts.” The 8 p.m. show is part of the Tralf Music Hall’s Summer Comedy Series. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door, and are available online. Info: www.tralfmusichall.com
Several other local comics are ready to be interrogated onstage during “The Unusual Suspects” show at Tudor Lounge 9 p.m. July 31. Hosts Don Johnson and Jesse Winterhalter will question Brandon Trusso, Gary Wallace, John Lockwood, Ryan Fay and Sean Marciniak in a comedy, storyteller, improv and theater hybrid format. The show will also feature raffles and a costume contest, as attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite crime show characters. Tickets are $5 at the door.
