Beer news: 12 Gates, Woodcock XPA 6.1, Five & 20

12 Gates collaborates with The Edge

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Dr., East Amherst) is hosting an official tasting party with 103.3 The Edge from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 28. The public is invited to try samples of four contending beers and participate in voting on which will become the official collaboration beer.

Live music from Scribe for the Tribe and food from KTB’s Bucking Pig BBQ will be available. Call 906-6600.

Buffalo Brewing celebrates one year

Buffalo Brewing Company (314 Myrtle Ave.) is turning one, and will host its anniversary party on July 29. The party will feature the release of its 1901 IPA (India Pale Ale) aged in Buffalo Distilling bourbon barrels. Also served at the party will be the brewery’s 2017 Celebration Pale Ale along with one surprise beer. Call 868-2218.

Woodcock Brothers Brewery's release prompts party

Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) will release XPA 6.1 at noon on July 29. The beer is the same recipe as its XPA 6.0 (plus extra dry hopping), which was the first beer canned in the XPA series for the brewery, released over a year ago. Can sales are limited to one case per person and the beer will only be available at the brewery.

The beer will also be available on draft at the brewery (along with a special cask of it), and growler fills will be available. The release has prompted the brewery to throw a party, including live music from Jamie Holka on the patio starting at 11:30 a.m., newly designed XPA apparel, special beer glassware and beer will be served on the patio for those who are waiting in line. Distill for a day with Five & 20

Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing (8398 US-20, Westfield) is holding a distiller-for-a-day event at 10 a.m. Aug. 5. The opportunity involves working directly with the distilling team to learn about the inner workings of its grain-to-glass craft distillery operation, taking attendees through all the steps of the distilling process.

Samplings, sensory experiences, lunch and a t-shirt are included in the cost of the event. Call 793-9463 by Aug. 1 to register.
