Five charged with welfare fraud in Cattaraugus County

Five people in Cattaraugus County have been arrested in the past two weeks for forging signatures on social services documents. Each arrest came after a Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services investigation.

Here's the list from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office:

· Leighann A. Russell, 30, of Salamanca was charged with three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and three counts of second-degree forgery, both felonies. Russell allegedly forged the name of her landlord on social services paperwork she submitted. She was arrested on July 19 by City of Salamanca Police, turned over to the Sheriff's Office and arraigned in the Olean City Court.

· Timothy R. Sherlock, 35, of Wellsville turned himself in at Olean City Court on July 18 and was arrested for first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and second-degree forgery, both felonies. Sherlock allegedly forged signatures on Department of Social Services Work Experience Program time sheets.

· Mimi LaPierre, 29, of Olean turned herself in at Olean City Court on July 11 and was charged with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and two counts of second-degree forgery, both felonies. LaPierre allegedly forged her landlord's signature on Department of Social Services forms.

· Janelle C. Jennings, 33, of Glenwood turned herself in at Olean City Court on July 11 and was arrested for second-degree forgery and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, both felonies. She was also charged with petit larceny, fifth-degree welfare fraud and misuse of food stamps, all misdemeanors. Jennings allegedly submitted an online application for food stamps in another person's name and used that person's food stamps.

· Kristannette M. Locklear, 31, of Olean turned herself in at Olean City Court on July 11 and was charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and second-degree forgery, both felonies. Locklear allegedly forged her landlord's signature on Department of Social Services paperwork.

All the defendants were given future court dates and released.
