Families expecting a new baby or who already have one are invited to four Healthy Baby Festivals in coming weeks.
Catholic Charities Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program will host the free events, which offer activities for children and information for parents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following days:
Dunkirk: Tuesday in Washington Park.
Buffalo: Friday in Delaware Park, near Colvin Avenue and Amherst Street.
Niagara Falls: Aug. 2 at the Hyde Park splash pad.
Jamestown: Aug. 4 in the Allen Park large pavilion near West Virginia Avenue.
Games, face painting, crafts, educational resources, prizes and giveaways will be part of the activities. Visits from the Paw Patrol, Buffalo Zoomobile, and Movin’ and Groovin’ will be part of the events in Buffalo and the Falls. The Salad Bar food truck also will be on hand in those cities. Families also are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch.
Catholic Charities WIC will host the events to help mark World Breast-feeding Week, Aug. 1-7.
More than 50 community agencies across the three counties support the Healthy Baby Festivals.
“Our Catholic Charities WIC Healthy Baby Festivals are great examples of our communities coming together to learn about the importance of breast-feeding for the long-term health of both baby and mother,” Katie Constantino, Catholic Charities WIC Breast-feeding Coordinator, said in a news release.
The events received support from the annual Catholic Charities Appeal. The Buffalo event is sponsored in part by the Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network, and the Dunkirk festival is sponsored by Brooks Memorial Hospital and Lake Erie Medical Services.
