ABBOTT - Robert Classie "Bob"
Age 91, passed peacefully July 3, 2017 at his daughter's home in Kensington, MD. Born June 7, 1926 in Syracuse, NY, to Harry and Ruth (Classie) Abbott, Bob graduated from North High School in 1944, was drafted into the Navy and served aboard the USS Cocopa in the Pacific theater during WWII. He attended Syracuse University, completing his PhD in physics in 1959, and married his wife, Inger "Tulle" Andersen in 1962. They settled in Williamsville, NY. He worked for Cornell Aeronautical Lab, SUNY Buffalo, and later (after moving to Nashua, NH) for Mitre Corp in Bedford, MA. He moved to Kensington, MD in 2008. A long time resident of Kensington Park, Bob was a voracious reader, loved his daily walks and the music of JS Bach. He was predeceased in 2007 by his loving wife, Inger Abbott. He is survived and dearly missed by his daughter, Meredith Vassell of Kensington, MD; son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Cerissa Abbott of Houston, TX; a sister-in-law, Beth Andersen, of East Aurora, NY; former son-in-law Russell (Esmerelda) Vassell of Kensington, MD; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and six grandchildren. Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to www.aspca.org or www.hospicecaring.org.
