A Northwest Bank teller told Buffalo police that a man scammed her out of $1,200 Friday while exchanging money and asked for Euros.
The man entered the Lafayette Avenue bank with $2,800 in $100 bills and requested to exchange them for $20 bills.
The teller gave the man the $2,800 in $20 bills. The man pocketed $1,200 and requested $2,800 worth of Euros instead. When the teller said she was unable to convert the cash to Euros, the man gave back $1,600 and took the original denominations back – leaving with the additional $1,200 he had pocketed, police reported.
The case was turned over to the detective bureau.
The thief was described as about 25 to 30 years old and about six-feet tall and a thick European accent.
