The post position draw for the 82nd running of the Prince of Wales Stakes was held this afternoon in the racing office at Fort Erie Race Track. A field of seven will contend for the second jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown at the border oval on Tuesday night.
First post for Tuesday's twilight card is at 4:20 p.m., with the feature race scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Tiz a Slam (8-5) was installed as the morning line favorite for trainer Roger Attfield. The second choice is State of Honor (5-2), who spent time on the American Triple Crown trail and finished eighth in the Plate.
Tiz a Slam, who finished second in the Queen's Plate behind Holy Helena on July 2 at Woodbine, will be looking to provide Attfield with his sixth Wales victory. Attfield's first came 41 years ago in 1976, when Norcliffe captured the second jewel.
The Plate winner's connections decided to skip the Prince of Wales, so a Canadian Triple Crown is by the books this year. Holy Helena is likely pointed towards the Alabama, one of the premier races for 3-year-old fillies in the States.
Two of the entries, Aurora Way (6-1) and Spirit of Caledon (12-1), both ran in the Plate, finishing sixth and ninth, respectively.
The field for the 82nd running of the Prince of Wales is below:
|Prince of Wales Post Positions|
|1||Spirit of Caledon||Parente||Lermyte||12-1|
|4||State of Honor||Casse||P Husbands||5-2|
|5||Tiz a Slam||Attfield||da Silva||8-5|
