Don't expect to see amusement rides at Lackawanna Festival unfolding this weekend at Veteran's Stadium, 2960 South Park Ave.
Instead, the festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with back-to back softball tournaments, continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday with a three-on-three basketball tourney and winds down Sunday on bicycles with a 10-mile ride through the Steel City.
"We will be biking throughout the city – including Bethlehem Park – starting and ending at Veteran's Stadium," said Mayor Geoffrey Szymanski. "We hope biking enthusiasts from Western New York and Southern Ontario will join us."
Live music is key to any Lackawanna party, and Bone Shakers set the tone from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday.
Kick back to music from Midlife Crisis from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Then close out Sunday with the sounds of Stoneflower Band from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Leroy Townes Band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Recreation director Rick Zybert plans to challenge young athletes with an obstacle course, rock wall, waterslide and bounce houses – all opening at 2 p.m. Saturday. From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday check out the nationally acclaimed Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics Show. Adults can take in a craft show and sale from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and a car show from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. And don't forget Sunday's 3 p.m. Corn Hole tournament. It paves the way for tailgating.
