An Attica Correctional Facility inmate has been charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and promoting prison contraband in an April 22 assault on a fellow inmate, State Police said Friday.

Dominick F. Coffer, 21, was charged Wednesday in the attack with an "edged weapon," according to State Police.

The victim sustained several stab wounds and was hospitalized for multiple injuries including a hemopneumothorax, a combination of air and blood in the chest cavity, State Police said.

Coffer was moved from Attica to the Southport Correctional Facility in Pine City, State Police said. He is serving a sentence out of Duchess County for criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree, according to authorities.

Coffer was arraigned in Wyoming County Court by Judge Michael M. Mohun. State Police said he will reappear in court at a later date.
