Invest in the Coast Guard, which is doing a yeoman’s job
After reading of the job done by the Coast Guard in combating drug trafficking, a New York Times article published in The Buffalo News on July 5, it seems it would make sense to find more funding for the agency rather than cut its budget by 2.4 percent.
As stated in the article, the 450,000 pounds of cocaine seized last year with a value of nearly $6 billion was more than all the “coke” seized by land-based law enforcement agencies combined.
The boats also intercepted nearly 7,000 people trying to illegally enter the U.S. You have ships in the fleet that are more than 50 years old trying to outrun speedboats on the open seas.
Doesn’t it make sense to put more funding where you’re getting a good return on your investment?
Congratulations on a job well done to the USCG.
