Location and time are no longer an issue for those who wish to visit Buffalo's Forest Lawn. Visitors can give themselves a self-guided, virtual reality-style tour via a newly updated phone app.
The free app, currently available on iOS and Android devices, is titled Forest Lawn Visitor's Guide. Funding was provided through a grant from M&T Bank, according to a Forest Lawn announcement.
There are 20 tour stops on the app that feature the landmark's most popular locations – mainly the resting places of historic figures, including President Millard Fillmore and Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, and monuments like the Blue Sky Mausoleum. About 100 locations will be featured on the app with coming updates, the release states.
Each stop gives the user a 360-degree view of the location and audio detailing the history of each individual or monument. Those on the Forest Lawn grounds also can use the app to navigate the cemetery's 269 acres via self-guided tours with turn-by-turn directions.
"This innovative mobile app opens Forest Lawn to people locally, nationally and internationally, who may not be able to visit our sacred grounds for a variety of reasons, including distance, age or disability,” said Forest Lawn President Joseph P. Dispenza.
