Local archer qualifies for World Para meet in China

Timothy O. Palumbo of Williamsville won all seven of his round-robin matches in recurve open men's shooting to earn one of the two top spots on the national team at the World Archery Para Championships U.S. Team Trials in Salt Lake City. Also earning recurve open places were Michael Lukow of Salt Lake City and Kevin Maher of Lakewood, Colo., who represented the U.S.  at the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships and picked up archery only two years ago.

The team will compete in the world meet in Beijing Sept. 12-17.

"We have an incredibly strong team right now," said Randi Smith, head coach of the national para team. "They have been here working hard for a week already, training and growing as a supportive family. We are going to continue that hard work and I am very proud to bring this team to China to represent Team USA."
