Buffalo police and firefighters sponsor 'Our City Day' at Canalside

Buffalo police and firefighters are hosting a family-oriented event Sunday afternoon on Hanover Street at Canalside to complement what has been designated as "Our City Day [716]."

There will be bicycle raffles, free bicycle helmets, balloons and popcorn. Equipment used by SWAT, the Underwater Recovery Team and firefighters will be on display, along with K-9 demonstrations. The Erie County Sheriff's helicopter will land at the event to allow visitors an up-close look at the aircraft.

Mayor Byron W. Brown and police officials will also be there to chat with residents.

"The focus of this is to celebrate our city on Our City Day [716] this Sunday," Community Police Officer Anthony LeBron said.

Besides first-responder equipment, police and sheriff's deputies will be conducting courtesy safety checks of child seats in automobiles, offering fingerprinting of children so that parents have records of their children's prints and providing information on how to start block clubs.

The event runs 12 to 3 p.m.
